pilot programs
The pilot program will start off with three students who will have the opportunity to build a drum from start to finish. They will be provided with the necessary tools, information, skills and budget to complete their projects.
Resources
A vast pool of drummers and local schools have drums that need to be fixed, refurbished, or are just in need of a new look. The Chicago Drum Building Program will also comb the local pawn shops, eBay, craigslist etc. for suitable ‘in need’ drums. Our students will also have the option to build a drum completely from scratch.
Skill development & Mentorship
By going through our program; the students will learn specific skills that will benefit them later in life. Some of these skills include; learning every part of the drum and drum set, working with tools needed to deconstruct /construct the drums, woodworking skills, budget management, concept research and planning for all parts and steps toward the final concept and vision. They will need to know how much the project will cost based on the budget available, and students will learn what components are needed by looking up and ordering parts within said budget. Students will learn how to troubleshoot and fix problems through helping each other. Custom drum designs are achieved through collaborations between different creatives such as airbrush, decoupage, carving and other artists.
end results
Upon completion; the students will walk away with a sense of pride because they were a part of the process from start to finish. The students will come away with a learning experience that they can pass on to someone else.
remote possibilities
Immediate goal is to acquire a vehicle to serve as a complete drum mobile workstation - this way the the Chicago Drum Building Program can serve schools, community centers, juvenile detention centers, Park districts and more.
